Ah Summer.
We've all had that moment where we stared at our bikini'd body in the mirror at Target, on the screen of a phone or caught a glimpse of our reflection in the mirror and gone WOAH! What's going on there?! We all want to feel like J-Lo on that first day of summer but the reality is we forgot to give our body the memo during winter. You know, when you had a hundred things on the to-do list & your favorite pair of leggings were practically your superhero skin and man that's just an amazing pie your coworker brought to the office. Luckily for you though, you don't have to feel that way this summer as you have stumbled across this article (divine timing?) 1- First & Foremost: Forget ALL You Know Simply put: if you want something you've never had... you're going to have to do something you've never done. So for the next 10 minutes I'm going to ask you to open your mind & let go of your assumptions. Diets? You're gonna have to LET GO of those. Why? Because depriving yourself only leads to bingeing later on. You know when it's late at night after a long day or you have one too many drinks and all of a sudden you find yourself in a dark corner clutching a bag of chips in one hand and a bag of marshmallows in the other looking like Smeagle on a down day? No girlfriend, that is not a good look. And the worst part is, when you go on extreme or fad diets...you actually mess your body up because it thinks you're living through a famine and so next time you eat its going to store as much as possible as fat so that you won't die...Yikes! Same with workouts...are you really going to squeeze in treadmill time after work when your gals are yelling "HAPPY HOUR!?!?!" You've got to plan for what you'll do when those moments come up, because they invariably will! Which brings me to my next point... 2-Work in your workout So you've seen your #wcw on instagram tossing tires around like they were the cheerleading pom poms. But does that mean you've gotta go sneaking around dump yards looking for spare car parts? No Beautiful, let her be her glorious self and find the thing that lets you shine. Become the scientist of your own body, finding the ways your body likes to move, and make it so that you don't even have to think about it...it just happens naturally. 3-Find your superhero foods Ok listen up gorgeous, because this step is C-R-U-C-I-A-L. Did you know that getting the body you want has only 20% to do with exercise, and 80% with how you eat? And did you know that different bodies react to different 4-Write it down! So you want to feel sexy for summer (and beyond!) but what exactly does that mean? If you've got a vague idea but no real plan you're way more likely to say yes to ice cream with a friend than suggest bowling or a picnic. You don't have to stop doing certain things but you can do them better. The clearer you get about who you are becoming and how that is going to look, the more effortless it becomes to just be that version of yourself: no effort needed. 5- Get accountable! Inspiration can only take us so far. Without accountability, we don’t always follow through, we can get stuck or fall back into bad habits And then we can really spiral, because we feel guilt and shame. Yuck! Find a health coach or a personal trainer to get-and keep- you on the right track. When choosing, make sure you like their style of coaching ...you don't want a tough love trainer showing up at your door at 5am when all you were really looking for were some gentle reminders to stay on your sh*! Enlisting friends, coworkers or family to support your summer goals can also make a huge difference, as they'll be less likely to bring home a pound of quick sale cookies for you if they know you'll likely toss them in them in the trash when they're not looking.
